Explore Our New Resources on Digital Adherence Technology and its integration with DHIS2 in Tanzania
DHIS2 is the world’s largest health information management system and it is used in over 80 countries worldwide. In Tanzania, it has been implemented by the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Programme (NTLP) since 2014 supporting their efforts to strengthen monitoring and evaluating program activities.
After an upgrade in 2017, the system enhanced its approach to monitoring case detection and treatment outcome. With the introduction of novel technologies, and the utilization of Digital Adherence Technologies (DATs) as tools to support tuberculosis treatment adherence, new avenues for integration were considered necessary.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE INTEGRATION
KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, in collaboration with the NTLP – Tanzania have been working together to support people with tuberculosis (TB) to achieve their treatment completion with the support of DATs across four regions in Tanzania. During this approach, a Smart Pill Box technology, evriMED, has been used to monitor treatment intake, collecting frequency of medication intake and adherence patterns.
Integrating the data collected through the Smart Pill Box into the country-wide used system (DHIS2) has been deemed appropriate to strengthen data availability on TB treatment intake and follow up.
COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS
The collaboration between HISP -Tanzania and the NTLP – Tanzania brought the development of a DHIS2 custom Application that directly interacts with the
evriMED system (Smart Pill Box), allowing for a seamless integration of both systems and strengthening treatment data availability.
INTRODUCING NEW DOWNLOADABLE RESOURCES
Our new downloadable resources provide detailed insights into the technical considerations of the integration of evriMED (Smart Pill Box technology) with the DHIS2 system, and an App user guide on how to access and use the Treatment Adherence Custom Application in DHIS2.
The Global DAT Task Force is fully funded to provide technical assistance to countries in their DAT planning, roll-out and scale up, contact us via secretariat@tbdigitaladherence.org if you require TA for your country’s DAT implementation.
